What is it?

Talk ED is the new name for Anorexia and Bulimia Care. We are a national charity established in 1989, providing emotional support and practical advice to anyone affected by an eating disorder in the UK.

Eating disorders thrive in silence. It isn’t easy to share your struggles with food, eating and body image with those around you, and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. We’re here to help break down the barriers to talking.

We offer personalised, practical and accessible peer-led services that meet your needs; and use our lived experience to help you on your own path to recovery with true understanding and empathy.

Eating disorders also affect loved ones. It’s hard to know what to say or do to help the person you care for, or to let them know you’ve noticed they are struggling. We’ll listen and share practical tools and guidance to help and empower you to support your loved one through their recovery.

Our mission is to support, connect, empower, and inform anyone at risk of, or affected by eating disorders in the UK.

We do this by:

  • Offering a range of 1:1 and group support services and providing a safe space for you to discuss your struggles with any eating disorder or eating distress, including, but not limited to, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, other specified eating and feeding disorders (OSFED).
  • Helping families to support their loved one. If you are a parent, partner, sibling, other family member or friend supporting someone, we are here for you too.
  • Connecting people affected by eating disorders with others who understand what they are going through, via our befriending service, peer support groups and workshops.
  • Sharing information and resources via our website, social media channels and newsletter to help educate, empower, and break down the stigma surrounding eating disorders.
  • Providing a platform for you to share your own experiences, and add your voice to the conversation about the issues and challenges facing those affected by eating disorders today.
  • Campaigning to make online spaces safe for all; to protect the mental health of people affected by eating disorders and negative body image. For example, we’re calling for the UK Government to amend laws and put governance in place to ensure that targeted eating and body image related advertising content is effectively monitored, with modified photos labelled.
  • Educating GPs and fitness professionals via our e-courses designed to assist early intervention by increasing knowledge and awareness of eating disorders.
  • Working with the media to help raise awareness and support accurate, ethical, and responsible reporting of eating disorders and those affected.
