Description

What is Healing Together?

A programme offered directly to children to support their mental health and well-being in school. The Healing Together programme is a six week trauma informed programme for children ages 6-16.

It combines trauma informed principles with relational approaches, neuroscience and attachment models. Each session helps children make the link between the mind and body and teaches simple tools children can use to help them to regulate.

The materials are grounded in research and written by Dr Asha Patel (Clinical Psychologist) and Jane Evans (Childhood Trauma Expert). The programme is developed by Innovating Minds is an award-winning social enterprise that supports children impacted by domestic abuse.

The Healing Together Programme is for children who have experienced domestic abuse and are now living in safety.

What’s on offer to my school?

In Autumn Term 2023-24, we are proud to offer 2 full days of virtual training by Childhood Trauma Expert Jane Evans, followed by an online learning module focused on supporting children and young people who are impacted by domestic abuse, so that your school can go onto deliver the Healing Together Programme in-house. An extra learning module focussing on providing the right support to parents and carers who have experienced domestic abuse is also included.

Following training, the delegate will receive ongoing support with programme delivery to CYP and parents and carers and have access to the Healing Together virtual portal of programme resources and ongoing CPD.

What does this all cost?

The training is free! Over the past 2 years we have offered a limited number of funded spaces for children and young people to attend the Healing Together programme. Due to the success of the programme and its importance we are now offering one FREE fully funded training place for schools in Camden. Schools can nominate one member of staff to train for free. This will leave you with your own dedicated, fully trained, in-house, Healing Together Facilitator offering a sustainable solution to support CYP at the earliest opportunity. See our healing together brochure for full details.

What do children in Camden think about Healing Together?

Countrywide, feedback has shown the positive impact of the Healing Together Programme on young people’s social, emotional and mental health. Read some of the testimonials below.

Why is the Healing Together programme important?

Approximately one in three women and one in four men will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lifetime. It is estimated that 90% of children whose parent is abused are present when it occurs and that 62% of children are directly abused by the perpetrator. Children who experience early trauma, can grow up feeling unsafe in their home. This can have consequences such as; depression and anxiety, truancy and exclusion, academic and cognitive difficulties, bed wetting, social needs, insomnia, self-harm, increased risk of suicidal behaviour and many other factors. We need to acknowledge these figures and sensitively support children and young people in our schools.
